Communal facilities at Carfax Court, Victoria Park, Manchester for NJoy Student Living

Wylie Architecture were appointed by Njoy Student Living to prepare design and technical drawings for upgraded communal facilities at Carfax Court, within the Victoria Park Conservation Area in Manchester and in the curtilage of the Grade II* listed Langdale Hall. The proposals required a highly sensitive approach, responding to the presence of mature trees and protected root systems, as well as existing low ceiling heights.

Careful selection of materials and construction methods allowed ceilings to be maintained at a minimal depth while achieving modern performance standards and a visual relationship with the surrounding buildings. Originally constructed in the 1960s, the building was comprehensively upgraded to meet contemporary student living expectations, including new windows, en-suite facilities, improved accessibility, and enhanced overall living standards.
